The paradox of women and leadership

As women, we are often conflicted about leadership.

We might want to step up to lead and take a stance for what we believe in, but the current style of leadership that is role modelled to us isn’t always one we are willing to embrace. It often demands that we abandon parts of who we are, in order to fit in and belong. This way of leading omits a huge portion of who we are as women, and undervalues the unique qualities that we are naturally gifted with and embody. 

Many women also struggle to identify as leaders, and hold a belief that leadership is exclusive to corporate headquarters and organisations - a recognised position of power that comes with a job title that commands respect and seniority.

At the School Of Somatic Leadership For Women, we believe that leadership is broad and unbounded. It isn’t confined to any particular place or role.

It’s a quality of being.

Teachers imparting knowledge on young children are leaders, mothers raising their children are leaders, people organising events within their communities are leaders, yoga teachers helping people connect to their bodies are also leaders. 

We are all leaders in our unique way. Because we inevitably impact everyone we touch each day in some ways, whether consciously or not. Our way of being IS a way of leading. 

At a time where the world is divided, uncertain, and overwhelmed with stress, the need for compassionate, courageous, regulated and human-centred leadership has never been greater. 

Embodied Feminine Leadership is a new paradigm of leadership.  An alternative to the outdated model of power and the leadership blueprint that we are used to. One that is rooted in compassion, co-creation, daring to be our whole self and allowing others to do the same.

 

What is embodied feminine leadership?

Embodied feminine leadership is:

An invitation.

A doorway into new possibilities for women to live and lead differently.

An invitation to:

  • Reclaim the parts of ourselves that we have unconsciously disowned because they didn’t belong in the persona we crafted to belong and feel safe

  • Reconnect with who we are beneath the polished facade: the version of us who is authentic and yearning to be expressed.

  • Attune to our body, our somatic intelligence, our intrinsic self-worth. Reconnect with our inner authority, and the feminine power that lies untapped within us.

  • Embrace our fullest expression and potential as a woman and as a leader, in a way that feels safe and empowering

A new paradigm of leadership.

Recognising that our way of being is a way of leading.

Realising that the most profound impact we can have as leaders is who we are BEING, because we irrevocably and uniquely touch and impact everyone we meet.

When we come into contact with our deepest self, our embodied presence and power, we can bring a unique and authentic expression of leadership wherever we are.

As women, we re-embrace feminine qualities of leadership (as well as our well practised masculine ways): bringing our body’s intelligence ‘online’ to complement our cognitive intelligence, collaborating and co-creating, being authentic, and honouring ourselves while we honour our mission. We anchor our leadership in heart - not ego.

As we reclaim a more feminine way of leading, our personal transformation radiates outwardly and models a new way of leading for all.

The inner evolution we have been incubating, contributes to an outer evolution.

A movement.

A commitment greater than ourselves, to shape the world we live in in new ways.

A desire to re-balance the paradigm of power and leadership we know so well, to dismantle the internal and external barriers that prevent women’s voices from being heard and our potential to be fully expressed. A we balance these qualities within ourselves, we contribute to crafting a more nuanced, balanced and harmonious world.

It’s a movement to reimagine leadership and what is possible for ourselves, our society and generations of women who will come after us.
